Mrs. Kieber's Take A BOOK on Vacation Pictures!!

After looking at Mrs. Kieber's pictures from her trip to Michigan, I think I need to put it on my list of places to visit.

In the first picture Mrs. Kieber has the Mackinac Bridge (pronounced "Mack-in-naw) behind her.  It is in Michigan and separates Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.  You can see Lake Huron behind her. The Mackinac Bridge is about 855 miles away from Hollywood Elementary School.

Mrs. Kieber and her family drove over the Mackinac Bridge and headed northward for about 75 miles. These next pictures were taken in the UP of Michigan (you pronounce each letter "U" "P"), it sands for Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  There first stop was in Whitefish Point Michigan, at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.  This is about 933 miles away from Hollywood Elementary School.  Many ships have sunk there, with the most famous ship being the Edmund Fitzgerald.  There was a wonderful lighthouse on the point.  They were on Lake Superior while visiting these wonderful sites. And of course they had to put their feet in each of the Great Lakes along their journey.

The last picture was taken at Sault Ste Marie (pronounced Soo-saint-Marie) in Michigan.  Sault Ste Marie is about 910 miles away from Hollywood Elementary School.  Mrs. Kieber and her family took a boat tour through the Soo Locks, where the water level has to rise or fall 21 feet to get from Lake Superior to Lake Huron.  At the end of their trip, they headed to Western New York and put their feet in Lake Erie.  Unfortunately Mrs. Kieber and her family didn't have a chance to drive another 70 miles to dip their toes into the other Great Lake.  Do you know which one they missed?  I'll be posting the answer in a future blog post.

There is still time to send in your pictures!  In fact I just got an email today from an incoming third grader and her mom.  I'll be posting her pictures tomorrow.

Happy Reading!!
