I LOVE My Media Center Because....

I wanted to decorate our Media Center for Valentine's Day!  Another Media Specialist posted on Twitter this activity and I just jumped on it!  I made a heart on the computer and wrote inside:  I LOVE my Media Center because...  The students during check out time had the opportunity to finish the sentence.  It was great to see so many students who wanted to fill out a heart.  I loved all the responses that were written on the hearts!  Here are a few of my favorites!

I LOVE my Media Center because it has lots of books.

I LOVE my Media Center because I love checking
out books and doing Power Points and projects.

I LOVE my Media Center because I can check out cool books.

I LOVE my Media Center because I like to check out books.

I LOVE my Media Center because they have all of my favorite books.

I LOVE my Media Center because I can check out EPIC books
and visit Miss Hazuda.

I LOVE my Media Center because they have great books and
I've been introduced to some really great series.

I LOVE my Media Center because the teachers are nice.

If you happen to find yourself in HES during February, feel free to stop by and read some hearts!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Have I Got A Book For You: BabyMouse (Queen of the World)

Here is our second student book review on a Babymouse book!  In fact, this book review is on the very first  Babymouse book!

This book review was completed by Hailey Jo in Fifth Grade.

Title of Book:  Baby Mouse: Queen of the World

Author:  Jennifer L. Holm & Matthew Holm

Summary:  Babymouse is trying to fit in with the popular girls.  She was upset about how the girls picked on her, so she tries to get a invitation to the girls party.

Reasons I liked the book:  I loved the Babymouse: Queen of the World because girls can feel that way and its a great message, if yo feel the way Babymouse does!  Go to the Library and look for Babymouse: Qeen of the World.

I would give this book 5 stars!

In the previous post I gave a link to the official Babymouse site.  The author, Jennifer L. Holm has her own website.  Click here to visit the site.  She also writes books other than Babymouse.  I've read a few and I really like them!

More Student Book Reviews Coming Soon

Queen of the World! (Babymouse, #1)

I have three more student book reviews to post soon.  I thought that I brought them home with me over the weekend, along with the disk from the digital camera.  After checking through my bag, I found that I had left all of it on my desk at school.  Two of the book reviews are about books from one of my favorite Graphic Novel series, Babymouse.  The other is our first book review on a nonfiction book!

Excitement in the Book World Today!

Today is one of the most exciting days, because it was the day that the Newbery Award, Caldecott Award and many other awards are handed out.  I am so pleased with so many of the decisions that the committees made this year.  For this post I'm just going to talk about the winners of the Newbery Award and Caldecott Award.  I'll follow up soon with a post about some of the other awards and the Newbery and Caldecott Honor Awards.

The One and Only Ivan
To say that I am pleased with the winner of the Newbery Award, is an understatement!  I am over the moon with the award going to The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.  If you or your child haven't read this book I highly recommend it.  Click here to see a summary of the book.  I recommend this book for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade students.  With 3rd grade students it might be a good idea for you to read it with your child or before just so you have an understanding of the story.  See the book trailer below to see a bit about the story.

This is Not My Hat
The Caldecott Award was given to This is Not by Hat by Jon Klassen.  I love this book as well.  Click here to see a summary of the book. Th illustrations in this book are incredible!  The story which was written by Jon Klassen, really added to the illustrations.  There is a moral to this story.  It is a great one that both kids will like, and parents will enjoy.  This is a companion book to his earlier book I Want My Hat Back, which in 2012 was a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award winner.  See below for the book trailer for This Is Not My Hat.

Hope you enjoy these books as much as I have.  If you read them, please post a comment and let me know what you thought of the books.

Happy Reading!!
