Mrs. Gilman has been busy all summer getting ready and preparing for this new school year. But she did take some time for a little relaxation and family fun. Mrs. Gilman and her family traveled to Kitty Hawk at The Outer Banks in North Carolina. This was about 268 miles from Hollywood Elementary School. While there she enjoyed some time on the beach with a very healthy book.
There is still time to send in your Take A BOOK On Vacation pictures.
Now the answer to the question from Mrs. Kieber's post. The question was "Which lake, of the Great Lakes" didn't Mrs. Kieber and her family stick their toes in?" The answer is Lake Ontario.

These pictures come from Abigail, who is an incoming third grader. The first picture was taken at Beals Island in Maine. Beals Island is about 800 miles from Hollywood Elementary School. It looks like such a peaceful place to sit and read for a while.

The second picture of Abigail was taken in Newport Rhode Island, which is about 450 miles away from Hollywood Elementary School. In the background is The Breakers, the Vanderbilt Mansion. It looks like Abigail and her family had a wonderful vacation and I can't wait to hear about it.
There is still time to send in your Take A BOOK On Vacation pictures. Tomorrow Mrs. Gilman's picture will be posted, along with the answer to the question from Mrs. Kieber's post.

It has been a while since I've posted any pictures. I have been very busy getting ready for school to begin. I'm still in shock over how fast August has gone! It went by in the blink of an eye. I've not only been getting the HES Media Center ready, I've also been helping a new Media Specialist in our county get ready to begin the year as well.
In our HES Media Center we have had a few changes. Mrs. Lorenz and her family moved back to Iowa. Her husband's contract got done much faster and earlier than any thought it would. We will miss her a lot, but wish her and her family the best. We were able to hire a new Media Assistant, she will be a familiar face for some. Our new HES Media Assistant is Mrs. Bulvin. She subbed in the Main Office last year when Mrs. Howell and Mrs. Guy were out. I'm looking to have a very successful year this year.
Now on to the Take A BOOK on Vacation Picture! This picture is of Lauren, who is an incoming Kindergarten student. Lauren and her family are new to the area and were told about this blog and our Take A BOOK On Vacation program by their neighbors. (So I want to give Lauren's neighbors a big thank you for promoting this blog and the program!)
Lauren and her family traveled to South Bend Indiana, which is about 667 miles from Hollywood Elementary School. They went there to visit her Grandparents. While they were there, Lauren's Grandpa celebrated his 70th Birthday!! Lauren had a great time playing with her cousins. While in South Bend, they visited the Notre Dame University campus. Lauren's picture was taken in front of "Touch-Down Jesus", so named because it is right by the Notre Dame football stadium. Lauren had her Disney Princess book with her to read. She loves reading it.
There is still time to send it pictures! You can either email them to me, or give them to me at Open House, which is on Tuesday August 20th from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Hope to see everyone there. Also keep checking back because I have Mrs. Kieber's pictures and Mrs. Gilman's picture to get up on the blog!

These pictures come from Jack, an incoming first grader. He and his family went to Nags Head North Carolina to visit even more family, including four cousins. Nags Head is about 260 miles from Hollywood Elementary School. Jack is reading a great nonfiction book about all the different ocean species they found while visiting Nags Head.
While in Nags Head Jack and his family found lots of moon jellies, or jellies without tentacles. Once cool thing that they read about and then found on the beach were Lighting Whelk egg cases. Jack and his family dried them out and opened them up to find tiny little whelk shells just starting out. They had never seen them on the shore until this trip. Jack and his family thought it was great to read and learn about them on their trip.
It sounds like Jack and his family had a great trip. I can't wait to hear more.
Don't forget there is still time to send in your pictures!
Happy Reading!!
